Portia Lee James DeGeneres is an Australian-American actor and model who has the pseudonym Portia de Rossi. She changed her name legally aged 15 and chose a name she liked "Portia" after the Shakespearean character in 'The Merchant of Venice.' Portia considers it the daringest of things she's done. The actress said her private struggle with sexuality was what prompted her to take the leap. Portia made her debut in film through a romantic comedy drama called 'Sirens' where she co-starred with Hugh Grant.
